[School name] poolside rules for parents and carers

Before and after the lesson

  • Arrive no more than [15] minutes before the lesson and leave within [15] minutes afterwards, to keep the changing rooms comfortable.
  • Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the changing area at all times.
  • Swimmers must not enter the water until their teacher invites them in.
  • [Vehicles are parked at the owner's risk.]

During the lesson

  • Teachers are responsible for swimmers only during the lesson. It starts when the teacher takes charge of the class and ends when the lesson finishes.
  • Parents and guardians must stay on the premises for the whole lesson.
  • Please do not distract teachers during the lesson. Speak to them afterwards or send us a message.
  • All swimmers must wear a swim cap. If you forget one, we will provide one at a charge of [£8].

Photos and filming

  • No photos or videos in the changing rooms or on the poolside.
  • We only take or use photos of children where consent has been given, in line with our Safeguarding Policy and Privacy Notice.

Who can come poolside

  • Only the account holder, people listed on the child's registration record, or people the account holder has given explicit permission may attend poolside.
  • Where parental responsibility is shared or disputed, access must be agreed in writing by both parties or set by a court.

Following the rules

All customers must follow our Pool Safety Operating Procedure, Safeguarding Policy, booking instructions and any poolside notices in force at the time. We may ask anyone who does not follow these rules to leave the poolside. Questions: [email] or [phone].

How to adapt it

  • Public pool venues: add the leisure centre's own rules and point to their notices.
  • Spectator galleries: replace "stay on the premises" with where parents should wait.
  • Set your own cap charge or remove it.

Questions

Can parents watch swimming lessons?

Usually yes, from a viewing area. These rules ask them not to call out or distract teachers.

Can parents take photos at swimming lessons?

Most schools ban photos and filming on poolside and in changing rooms for safeguarding reasons.

Who can collect a child or come poolside?

Only the account holder, people on the child's record, or people the account holder has given permission.

A starting point, not legal advice. Check it against your insurer's and governing body's requirements before you use it.
